Thuringowa State High School prepares students for the modern world through its iSTEM Academy classes, iSTEM elective subject and Global Tropics Future Project.

iSTEM Academy (specialist Mathematics, English and Science classes)

The iSTEM Academy classes provide a positive, innovative learning environment that fosters deep learning and develops 21st century learners through five key competencies:

• Creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship
• Collaboration
• Communication
• Critical thinking and problem-solving
• Global citizenship

Development of these competencies inspire our modern learners to be active, critically engaged, global citizens, now and in the future.

iSTEM (elective subject)

Thuringowa State High School’s iSTEM (elective subject) enables students to learn through problem solving, inquiry, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and curiosity. By innovating solutions to authentic Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) challenges, they are able to create, be inspired and develop aspirations for the future.

Learning experiences include building and coding Arduino devices, designing and building a functional aquabot, coding and flying drones and competing in local, regional and national STEM competitions.

Global Tropics Future Young Scholar program

The Global Tropics Future Young Scholars (GTFYS) program is an innovative partnership between the Department of Education (Thuringowa State High School) and James Cook University.

Through this collaboration, the GTFYS program delivers enhanced education opportunities in STEM.

As a GTF Young Scholar, like-minded students connect and collaboratively explore their interest and passion for STEM through a range of experiences that focus on authentic, real world STEM challenges and research.
