Our school prides itself on the benefits that come with students attending a smaller school.

We have dedicated and enthusiastic staff committed to personalised education programs.

Thuringowa State High School has a caring and supportive community that has a wide network of support including our guidance officer, youth support workers, chaplain, Aboriginal & Islander education unit, defence transition aide and school nurse.

We have excellent facilities including computer rooms, laptops, ipads, commercial standard kitchens, science laboratories, manual arts with the latest trades facilities, custom built theatre, gymnasium, basketball and tennis courts and a well resourced library.

Global Tropics Future Project is a partnership between the Department of Education and  Training and James Cook University, hosted and led by Thuringowa State High School. The project was established in 2016.  The project engages students who have an aptitude for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  As a Queensland Virtual STEM Academy the program utilises an innovative, real time, online virtual platform to deliver enrichment and enhancement experiences to our students.

Another component of the Global Tropics Future Project, is the introduction of a new elective iSTEM program in Years 7, 9 and 10. This innovative subject is designed to extend and engage students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  It incorporates inquiry based learning and design thinking that will enhance students’ learning capabilities in all areas of their life.

We have a strong presence in the inter-school sporting competitions with girls and boys teams in the various age groups in rugby league, AFL, football (soccer), netball and basketball.

Positive behaviour support network that is firm, fair and aimed at re-engaging students in meaningful educational processes.
