Global Tropics Future Project is a partnership between the Department of Education and  Training and James Cook University, hosted and led by Thuringowa State High School. The project was established in 2016.  The project engages students who have an aptitude for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  As a Queensland Virtual STEM Academy the program utilises an innovative, real time, online virtual platform to deliver enrichment and enhancement experiences to our students.

Another component of the Global Tropics Future Project, is the introduction of a new elective iSTEM program in Years 7, 9 and 10. This innovative subject is designed to extend and engage students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  It incorporates inquiry based learning and design thinking that will enhance students’ learning capabilities in all areas of their life.

We have a strong presence in the inter-school sporting competitions with girls and boys teams in the various age groups in rugby union, rugby league, AFL, football (soccer), netball and basketball.

The iAchieve Sports Program is a three year program for Years 7, 8 & 9 students in which students are selected based on interview, previous sports achievement and performance in fitness testing.  The program aims to support athletes in achieving a balance between sport and the rest of the lives without compromising sporting goals or academic achievements.
